What We’ve Done: Growing Global Churches

Growing Global Churches (GGC) is a ministry helping grow the local churches involvement in global mission. They help pastors and churches who want to grow their involvement in God’s global mission by inspiring, facilitating, resourcing and mentoring them in order to develop a culture of mission within their church.

Open Box Technology (OBT) has been working with GGC to help them visually communicate in a way which is honest and appealing.

We started with a graphic mark that suggests movement like that of ripples spreading across a globe. This brings to mind the global spread of the gospel, a core part of what GGC is trying to achieve. The graphic mark incorporates the initials of the organisation while the complete logo also includes the words “Growing Global Churches”. Both the graphic alone and the complete logo have been implemented as a black version, a colour version and a white version.

Some Helpful Online Tools

A while ago I wrote about becoming a Robo-Pastor. In Part 2 of that post I outlined a number of tools, particularly online tools, that can help ministry staff increase their efficiency and effectiveness. I thought I might take this opportunity to add a couple of helpful admin tools to that list. They may not necessarily be helpful in your situation, and they all do different things, but I think they are all tools that are at least worth a look.

What We’ve Done: Christ Church Gladesville

CCG Stained Glass Windows

Christ Church Gladesville recently approached Open Box Technology to help them upgrade their Video system. We installed two things: a new HD system consisting of two new LCD screens allowing the preacher and singers to see song words from the stage; and, a Black Magic Designs 16×16 SDI matrix to allow easy distribution of video signals across the two new screens, the existing projection screen and the preview monitor. This system doesn’t just meet current needs but will also allow easy expansion in the future, allowing screens in more locations to be fed a range of signals.

Church Presentations Part 1

Presentations are usually an integral part of the modern church service. Song lyrics, bible verses, liturgy or videos displayed on a projection screen form the basis for many aspects of the service. However, behind the scenes this is often a nightmare to manage. What presentation software do you use? How can you ensure the right content will be on the screen/s at the right time? How do you train people to use it? How do you manage the processes required to collate all the material together? What happens when a guest speaker or presenter turns up last minute with a presentation on a USB Stick (or CD, DVD…)?

Projected Lyrics

But the questions don’t just stop with the technology. The purpose behind presentations is to visually communicate ideas. What does it mean to communicate ideas well? How do you communicate effectively? How do you ensure the technology doesn’t get in the way of the communication, or the other way around?
